Northbrook Police Blotter: July 28 - Aug. 3

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and a list of those arrested. Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced and represent merely accusations by the state. An arrest is not an indicator of guilt, and all persons named are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
DRUG PARAPHERNALIA

While conducting a premise check at Stonegate Park in the 3400 block of Whirlaway Drive around 10:16 p.m. on July 27, police encountered two men between 20 and 30 years old. Police said one of them turned his body, appearing to try to hide something in his pocket. Both men agreed to empty their pocket. One of the men had a glass pipe with some burnt marijuana residue in it. Police asked both men to leave the area, took the pipe and entered it into evidence for destruction.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE

Someone went into an unlocked vehicle in the 1400 block of Sycamore Lane sometime between 10:30 p.m. on July 27 and 5 a.m. on July 28. Several broken eggs were found inside the front passenger area of the vehicle.
BURGLARY TO VEHICLE
Someone entered an unlocked vehicle in the 2500 block of Maple Avenue and took a backpack with a laptop, a wi-fi hotspot, various computer cables and paper files sometime in the overnight hours of July 27-28.
RETAIL THEFT
The loss prevention manager at the Nordstrom Rack in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard contacted police after he was alerted by store personnel that four men in their 20’s had stolen several pairs of shoes valued at about $1,500 between 10:37 and 10:53 a.m. on July 28. The men were seen getting into a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Chicago.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 3100 block of Palm Lane reported on July 29 at 11:39 a.m. that she had recieved a MasterCard that she had never applied for. $1,500 had already been charged to the card and the resident contacted credit reporting bureaus to place an alert on her account.
SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES
A resident in the 2700 block of Koepke Road reported that someone tore open a screen on the northeast side of the home between 11:30 a.m. on July 28 and 1:30 p.m. on July 29 The resident told police she suspects the contractors who have been working at the house may have torn the screen to access the home. Nothing appeared to be missing from inside the home.
RETAIL THEFT
On July 29 at 3:30 p.m., loss prevention personnel at the Neiman-Marcus in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road contacted police regarding nine young black men who left the store without paying for merchandise. Store security said the nine apparent teenagers were seen entering the store, walking towards the Burberry section, taking an unknown amount of merchandise and exiting the store.
SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCE
A resident of the 1600 block of Dundee Road reported that when he and his family arrived home on July 29 around 11:41 p.m., they found some of the doors were unlocked and a light was on. The resident did not believe any doors had been left open or lights left on. Police checked the inside the home but found no signs of any criminal activity, and the resident told police nothing appeared to be missing.
THEFT
The manager at the Apple store in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road reported that two women or girls made a purchase for an item under $10. The manager reported that during the transaction, the suspects handed the cashier different bills, and while the cashier was distracted, one of them reached into the cash drawer and stole cash. The employee later found the drawer to be $988 short. Two other Apple stores in the area reported similar thefts from what appears to have been the same women or girls. The pair was described as white, but no age or other description was provided by police.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of the 1300 block of Ridgewood Lane told police her bank had advised her of suspicious account activity around 9:39 a.m. on July 31, specifically the transfer of $2500.00 to another person listed on her account without her permission. The bank is refunding the money and is investigating.
COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY
A customer provided a counterfeit $100 bill to an employee at the Northbrook Toyota in the 1500 block of Skokie Blvd at 1:42 p.m. on July 31.
SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES
A resident in the 1100 block of Lake Cook Road reported on July 31 at 8:43 p.m. that she had been receiving strange text messages regarding a vehicle listed for sale on Craigslist over the past several days. The resident was able to locate an ad that listed her name and phone number, but she told police had not listed the car for sale.
THREATS
An employer in the 1900 block of Waukegan Road reported on Aug. 1 at 3:46 p.m. that a former employee had been making posts to Twitter that were threatening and aggressive in nature. The employer had also been advised that suspect might have purchased a gun and might be in the Chicago area.
THEFT
An employee at a medical office in the 4100 block of Dundee Road reported on Aug. 1 at 5:48 p.m. that a patient took his medical record from the office and refused to return it. Police spoke with the patient who explained he removed the record due to many complaints and frustration with the office. The patient was told that he could not remove the record and agreed to return it.
ARRESTS
SUSPENDED LICENSE
A 22-year-old Berwyn man was arrested July 30 at 6:47 a.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license and cited for an obstructed windshield after being pulled over near the intersection of Pfingsten Road and Walters Avenue because of his windshield.
DUI
Eyal Alima, 51, of the 900 block of Enfield Drive, was arrested July 29 at 2:49 p.m. near the intersection of Willow Road and Founders Drive after police responded to the scene of a single vehicle accident. After speaking with the driver, police said he was appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with driving under the influence and cited for improper lane usage, a driver’s license classification violation and driving without insurance.
SUSPENDED LICENSE
A 36-year-old Glencoe woman was arrested on July 31 at 10:05 a.m. near the intersection of Dundee Road and Oakleaf Terrace and charged with driving with a suspended license and cited for speeding and an expired registration after police on patrol pulled her over for speeding and found her license had been suspended.
SUSPENDED LICENSE
A 45-year-old Northbrook man was arrested on Aug. 1 at 9:32 p.m. near the intersection of Sanders Road and Exeter Lane and charged with driving on a suspended license. Police on routine patrol saw a vehicle commit several traffic violations and pulled it over. When they spoke to the driver, they learned his license had been suspended. He was also cited for stopping past a crosswalk and improper lane usage.
