Thief Charges $11K On Stolen Credit Cards: Cops

Alleged forger nabbed in Evanston.

The following information is from the Northbrook Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

FORGERY

Jamaul Belton, 25, Evanston was charged with felony forgery at 4:30 p.m. on June 18 at his residence and transported to the Northbrook Police Department. Investigators identified Belton as the person who cashed a stolen/forged check on May 4. The check had been stolen from a desk at a business in the 3100 block of Doolittle.

SUSPENDED DRIVER

Alejandro Molina, 42, Chicago was stopped at Dundee Rd. and Skokie Hwy. at 1:11 a.m. on June 19 and cited for driving while suspended and improper lane usage.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A victim in the 4300 block of Walters Ave. reported he rents space at the property to store his school busses which are filled with miscellaneous items for storage. On June 19, he received a phone call from staff at the property informing him that several windows on the busses had been broken and some items strewn outside on the ground. It does not appear that anything was taken, however due to the amount of miscellaneous items stored in the buses it is not possible to be certain.

THEFT

A victim in the 1300 block of Shermer Road reported at 1:29 a.m. on June 20 that offenders removed her purse and jacket from the back of a chair in the restaurant. She later discovered her purse and jacket outside the business but her black Prada wallet was missing.

THEFT

A victim in the 800 block of Willow Rd. reported at 12:47 p.m on June 22 that she was shopping in the store and became alerted that her wallet had been stolen when she received a call from her husband stating he had received a fraud alert warning from one of their credit card companies. The victim reported that her wallet was located in her purse which was in her cart and contained various credit cards, $100, a debit card and identification. The victim discovered that her credit cards were immediately used by the offender at stores in Glenview with purchases totaling nearly $11,000. The victim told the officers that she remembered a woman that seemed to be following her around the store.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

A victim in the 300 block of Era reported at 5:27 p.m. on June 22 that an offender removed her wallet from her purse that was in the back seat of her vehicle which was parked in the parking lot. The victim is not sure if her vehicle was locked or not. The wallet was the only item that was stolen. It contained credit cards and miscellaneous forms of identification.

RETAIL THEFT

Bryan J. Abens, 28, 2838 Woodmere Ct. was charged with retail theft on June 16. Northbrook Police investigators identified Abens as the offender that stole a FitBit Surge from a display shelf and left the business without paying for the merchandise. The offender was contacted by investigators and subsequently turned himself into police.

RETAIL THEFT

Latasha T. Johnson, 34, Chicago was charged with retail theft at 2:34 p.m. on June 24 in the 100 block of Skokie Hwy. The store loss prevention agent reported he observed the defendant in the fragrance section, where she concealed two bottles of cologne in her purse. The defendant then left the store without paying for the merchandise.

RETAIL THEFT

On June 22, a female offender came into a business in the 100 block of Skokie Hwy. and proceeded to the perfume counter. The complainant reported that the offender later entered a restroom where the complainant heard what sounded to her like sensors being removed from the boxes. After the offender left the store the complainant checked the restroom and located 18 sensors. Video is available and investigators are reviewing it.

BURGLARY

A victim in the 2400 block of Shannon Rd. reported that between June 19 and 22 he believes that his residence was burglarized. On June 22, one of his neighbors discovered an open side door to his residence and contacted police. Officers checked and secured the residence. When the victim returned home on June 24, he discovered items missing.
