Thief Used 'Detection Shielding Device': Northbrook Crime Reports
Northbrook Police Blotter: Dec. 1 - Dec. 7

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and a list of those arrested. Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced and represent merely accusations by the state. An arrest does not mean a person is guilty, and all persons named are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
THEFT
A resident in the 3600 block of Russett Lane reported on Dec. 1 shortly before noon that someone had stolen several rings from a jewelry box in a home that has been for sale for several weeks.

THEFT
Someone took a bag from the front porch of a home in the 600 block of Driftwood Lane, police were told on Dec. 1 shortly before 2 p.m.
THEFT
Someone stole a package that had been left on the front doorstep of a home in the 1800 block of Landwehr Road on Dec. 1 between 9 and 11:30 a.m.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A resident in the 2300 block of Techny Road reported Dec. 2 at 5:16 p.m. that someone had used a credit card without permission to make a $92 purchase.
FRAUD
Police were told on the morning of Dec. 4 that a fraudulent check had been chased from an account of a business in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard.
IDENTITY THEFT
On Dec. 5 at 9 a.m., police were told that someone had opened up a cellphone account without the permission of the Northbrook resident in whose name it was listed.
THEFT
A resident in the 4300 block of Terri-Lyn Lane reported Dec. 6 at 3:30 p.m. that someone stole a package from their home.
THEFT
Someone reported the theft of an iPhone from a UPS facility in the 2500 block of Shermer Road Dec. 7 at 8:14 a.m.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 49-year-old Northbrook woman was arrested Nov. 30 at 8:20 p.m. near the intersection of Waukegan and Dundee roads and charged with driving without a valid license, lights or insurance.
A 27-year-old Rockford man was arrested Dec. 1 at 1:04 a.m. near the intersection of Three Lakes Drive and Willow Road and charged with driving on a suspended license after police pulled him over for a traffic offense. He was also ticketed for improper lane usage. A 22-year-old Rockford woman who was the passenger in the vehicle was also taken into custody in connection with the incident after she was found to have an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court in Winnebago County.
Christian Ortiz, 26, of the 1200 block of Park Drive in Melrose Park, was arrested Dec. 2 at 2:57 a.m. near the intersection of Shermer and Meadow roads and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit. Police said they pulled him over for a traffic offense before determining he was drunk. Ortiz was also ticketed for an improper u-turn.
Lukas. S. Reinl, 33, of the 1000 block of Mount Pleasant, was arrested Dec. 2 at 3:25 a.m. near the intersection of Dundee and Landwehr roads and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also issued a citation for improper parking after he was found stopped in the road.
Gus Bell, 41, of the 2900 block of West Highland Boulevard in Milwaukee, Wisconsin was arrested Dec. 2 at 5:52 p.m. at the Nordstrom Rack in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard at Village Square. Police were told he put a pair of boots in a bag before leaving the store without paying. He was charged with retail theft and "use of a theft detection shielding device."
A 33-year-old Wheeling man was arrested Dec. 2 at 11:10 p.m. in the 900 block of Dundee Road and charged with driving on a suspended license. He was also ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt.
A 52-year-old Waukegan man was arrested Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. in the 900 block of Dundee Road on an outstanding warrant from Lake County for failure to appear in court in connection with a 2015 traffic offense. He was turned over to the Lake County sheriff's office.
A 27-year-old Wheeling man was arrested Dec. 4 at 10:08 a.m. near the intersection of Dundee and Lee roads and charged with driving on a suspended license after police on patrol noticed him speeding and pulled him over. He was also given a speeding ticket.
A 25-year-old Chicago woman was arrested Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. in the 500 block of Dundee Road and charged with driving on a suspended license. She was also issued a speeding ticket.
A 22-year-old Danville woman was arrested Dec. 6 at 1:17 a.m. around the intersection of Landwehr Road and Crestwood Drive and charged with driving with a suspended license after police pulled her over due to a lack of a valid license plate. She was also cited for not having insurance or valid registration.
