Thief's Untied Shoes Fall Off During Chase: Northbrook Police Blotter

The stolen shoes were recovered, but the subject was never caught, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Elbert O. Quadarrama Jiminez, of Northfield, is accused of driving with a suspended registration, no valid driver's license, suspended driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 8:53 p.m. June 12, in the 900 block of Willow Road. A court date of July 13 was assigned.

IDENTITY THEFT

Police responded to a bank in the 1700 block of Shermer Road at 3:12 p.m. June 13, after the staff noticed a female subject was attempting to impersonate a customer to withdrawal money from an account. Once the officers arrived, they were finally able to identify the subject as Teresa Allen. Allen was utilizing a fake ID to pose as the customer. After contacting the victim, she stated she didn’t know who Allen was and never gave her permission to withdrawal money from her account. After Allen was arrested, the officers found a white rock/powder that tested positive for containing heroin in her pocket. Allen was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a fraudulent driver's license. A court date of July 5 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

  • A customer at a grocery store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 1:52 p.m. June 9, someone stole his front license plate to his vehicle while he was shopping.
  • A complainant told police at 3:40 p.m. June 11, someone had stole the catalytic converter from his 2008 Toyota Prius while it was parked overnight at a hotel in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard.

RETAIL THEFT

  • The loss prevention staff at a business in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 11:55 a.m. June 10, someone had attempted to steal a pair of shoes. The subject placed the stolen shoes on his feet and attempted to run out of the store without paying. They then ran without lacing the shoes, and both shoes fell off when sprinting out of the store. The stolen shoes were recovered, but the subject was never caught.
  • A resident in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard called police at 2:34 p.m. June 13, to report he had just moved into his apartment. A member of the cleaning staff came in to clean the apartment. After the staff left, the complainant noticed his checkbook and passport were missing.

BURGLARY

The staff at a restaurant in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 5:43 p.m. June 13, someone made entry into the restaurant when it was closed and accessed the safe. Over $1,600 was stolen from the business.

THEFT

A Skokie Boulevard resident reported at 11:56 a.m. June 14, she had recently completed an eBay transaction, which she was not satisfied with. She contacted what she thought was eBay customer service. The subject on the phone convinced the complainant to purchase eBay gift cards in the hope to be reimbursed. After several transactions, the complainant gave away more than $4,900 and realized the number she had called was a scam artist and not the real eBay.

COMPUTER FRAUD

A Techny Road resident reported at 11 a.m. June 15, she received an email stating her warranty service from Geek Squad would be expiring soon and she should call the number listed on the email. The complainant contacted what she thought was the repair service representative. The subject on the phone convinced her to allow him access to her computer. The subject then gained access to her bank accounts. The complainant later contacted her bank and realized $2,900 had been electronically transferred to another account.
