During District 30’s November 14 Board of Education meeting, a ceremonial unveiling took place of a stately bronze plaque at the east entrance of Maple School, in the Six Pillars of Character hallway.

Behind the plaque is a time capsule that will remain within the wall until, “someday, when this building is gone," according to Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley.

"There has been so much to celebrate this year, with the opening of our new Maple School, and we are thrilled to be able to unveil this new plaque, which features the former and current Board of Education members, who were so instrumental in making the vision of our wonderful building come true. This truly was a passion project and it took the whole community to make it happen, “ stated Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley.

He expressed his appreciation to others who also have their fingerprints on this building with the board, from the district's administrative team, teachers, students, community members, and the Citizens Task Force, to Northbrook and Glenview village and park district officials.

Former Board President Chuck Gitles, and Maple School alum, was excited to be back at District 30. His three children also attended District 30 schools.

"With the 'cornerstone plaque' now on display, the Maple School project is complete. It is hard to believe it was only two years ago we got started. The kids who attend this center for learning are only just beginning to see the benefit," he stated.
