UL Test Burns Aim to Save Lives

Northbrook-based Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is conducting test burns at its facility to monitor oxygen levels and temperatures in typical house fires.

The ABC 7 I-Team calls it “a cutting-edge experiment” that could save the lives of firefighters and homeowners.

Firefighters from around the world gathered for the first two test burns, where about 150 sensors are strategically placed around homes located inside a UL warehouse. They are there to “witness potential techniques.”

About 20 more tests are planned.
