Unknown Viral Infection Suspected In GBN Student's Death
Glenbrook North senior Michelle Math died Tuesday following a "brief and unexpected illness."

NORTHBROOK, IL — Glenbrook North High School senior Michelle Math passed away unexpectedly Tuesday after a brief illness, school officials said. Last week, she went to the doctor suffering from a headache and back pain, her family told Pioneer Press. Her condition took a turn for the worse over the weekend, leading to inoperable brain swelling.
Doctors suspect an unknown virus was responsible, her mother told the Northbrook Star. Math planned to study engineering at Purdue University in the fall, and family members said they intended to move to Indiana to be closer to her.
In a letter to the students and families, Glenbrook North Principal John Finan said counselors and social workers would be available to provide assistance during an extremely difficult time for the entire Spartan community.
