Vacancy More Prevalent in Offices than Retail

Northbrook Village President Sandy Frum shared her thoughts on a number of local economic issues during her “State of the Village” address last week, one being the amount of vacant spaces in the village downtown.

She expressed her disappointment in the amount of “open office space.”

“There’s much more vacant office space than we’d like to see,” she said, noting that some buildings may be re-purposed to 2015 to alleviate that concern.

But when it comes to retail, vacancy rates at village shopping centers are down.

“That is a good sign,” Frum said. “That people want to come to Northbrook and be in our shopping centers.”
