Valet Shoved By Man Who Couldn't Find Phone: Cops

A man on Campden Lane caught someone trying to burglarize his house last week.

The following information is from the Northbrook Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

BATTERY

Jasen C. McClure, 19, Evanston was charged with disorderly conduct at 9:36 p.m. on Jan. 6 in the 900 block of Skokie Hwy. The victim, a valet, reported that the defendant approached him in an aggressive manner and began yelling “give me my phone.” The victim stated he told the defendant that he did not know what he was talking about at which time the defendant shoved him in the face causing him to fall backward. The defendant reported that he was searching for his Iphone using an app and it indicated it was in the proximity of the victim so he confronted him. The defendant’s phone was later located in the parking lot near the defendant’s parked vehicle.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A victim in the 4100 block of Yorkshire reported that offenders entered their residence through a rear door sometime between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Jan. 2. The rear door had been forced open. The victim informed officers that it appeared that jewelry had been stolen from one of the bedrooms. The canine unit followed a set of footprints in the snow from the victim’s rear yard to a street south of the residence where the scent track ended.

THEFT

A victim reported that while shopping at a business in Northbrook Court on Jan. 3 that her daughter set a bag of merchandise down on a display counter. When the victim went to retrieve the bag she found it was missing from the counter. The merchandise in the bag was valued at approximately $80. The store is reviewing its security video to see if it captured the theft on a camera.

ATTEMPTED RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A victim in the 2500 block of Campden Ln. reported that he was at home when he heard banging on the front door on Jan. 5. Moments later he heard the noise again and as he was walking down the stairway to check the noise he observed that the front door was forced open and a male offender inside the residence. The offender, finding the residence occupied, fled from the house. Officers responded to the area but the offender fled prior to their arrival. The canine unit responded and followed a track to a location where the offender had possibly parked his vehicle. There was nothing stolen from the residence.

RETAIL THEFT

The complainant, a store employee, reported that four or five female offenders ran out of the store activating the merchandise alarm system at 5:20 p.m. on Jan. 6 in the 100 block of Skokie Hwy. Once they entered the parking lot all the subjects ran in different directions. One offender entered a black sedan that was parked in a spot in front of the store. At the time of the report the complainant did not know exactly what was taken but it is believed the offenders had stolen handbags valued at approximately $1,500.00 each. Investigators are checking store security video for possible leads.
