Village Declares Emergency After 17" Snowfall
Plow crews worked on 12 hour shifts to combat 15 hours of blizzard.

Northbrook Village President Sandy Frum formally declared a state of emergency at 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to a release from the village, after more than 17 inches of snow fell during a 15-hour blizzard that began Monday.
Northbrook plow crews focused their efforts on main roads and have now moved onto residential streets, according to Dan Kaup, assistant to the village manager. Crews will continue to work through Thursday on 12-hour shifts until all the snow is cleared.
The declaration of emergency may help Northbrook obtain extra funds for money spent by the village during the blizzard, if the state of Illinois receives federal assistance, according to the release.

Since Northbrook’s remains in effect and streets must be kept clear of cars to allow plow crews to do their job, the village is temporarily allowing residents to park their cars in the West Commuter Lot, free of charge, until 6 a.m. on Friday.
For or blowing their snow, the village has posted some instructions for the best way to dig out—that means clearing a pocket for plows to drop snow so it’s not in your driveway.
