Key players: Gordon Tech: Devanchey Bell, Sr. G; Jerry Davis, Sr. G; Chris Harrell, Soph. G; Sam Rarick, Sr. C; Raequan Williams, Soph. F. Seton: Alex Foster, Sr. F; Kamal Shasi, Sr. G; Mark Weems Jr., Sr. G.

Fast Facts: Gordon Tech is off to a 3-0 start, though coach Tom Kleinschmidt admits they haven’t played a team quite as strong as Seton thus far. Kleinschmidt is in his first season coaching his alma mater after a coaching stint at York. Arguably the best player to ever play for Gordon Tech, he led the Rams to a second place finish in Class AA in 1990, was a McDonald’s All-American and went on to star at DePaul. Now, his mission is to restore the glory at Gordon Tech, Though the Rams have won three regional titles in the past four seasons, their last trip to state came in 1999. Seton coach Brandon Thomas wasn’t all that pleased with the start the Sting have gotten off to, losing to downstate Cahokia, Champaign Centennial and Lincoln while beating Danville and Morton. The Sting returns Weems, who was a first-team all-state selection in Class 2A last year as a sophomore and the MVP of the CCL South. Shasi was an all-state honorable mention in Class 2A last year. Foster was the big addition. The Minnesota signee transferred from De La Salle to Seton over the summer.

Quotable: “We are in the process of changing the culture here at Gordon Tech,” Kleinschmidt said. “It has been a while since we have been competitive in the always strong Catholic League. In a few years, we hope to be strong again in the league. Seton is the type of team we aspire to be. I respect them very much.”
