Carroll University Alumni Kick Off Month-Long Food Drive to Feed 45,000 People

Local resident Abby Lucas '15 is leading the effort in the Roscoe Village community to provide 45,000 meals for hungry families.

Carroll University alumni and local resident Abby Lucas ‘15 is leading the effort in the Roscoe Village community to help provide 45,000 meals for hungry children, women and men. The 5th Annual National Service Project will last all month and is a partnership with Feeding America. Anyone can participate, locally and nationally, by taking a bag of food to his or her local Feeding America food bank, or any food pantry, church or a food collection site. Participants can also donate meals online—$1 provides 5 meals and $219 can feed one person for a year. Then, participants should report their donation at www.carrollu.edu/alumni/food through the online response form.

“The legacy of service is so important to Carroll’s mission and we are thankful for the continued support we receive from our alumni and the community to feed hungry people across America,” said Doug Hastad, president of Carroll University. “No matter where you live in the United States, hunger is never too far away and that’s why this is a great event that keeps our alumni actively engaged. Pioneers Feed America!”

Since the inception of the National Service Project, Carroll has put nearly 150,000 meals on the tables of hungry people across the nation. The university is the only Feeding America partner who involves their alumni, nationally, in a food drive.

“We’re delighted to partner with Carroll University for the National Service Project. Our organization is also focused on service; service to our partner hunger relief programs that work tirelessly in the community to feed our hungry neighbors. Organizations like Carroll University help us ensure our partners have the food necessary to feed those in need, and they enhance the work we do by raising awareness about the issue of hunger,” said Charles McLimans, president/CEO of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
