Divvy Bike Rider Killed in Avondale

First bike-share fatality in U.S. history occurs on North Side Friday morning.

Chicago, IL - A Divvy bike rider was killed Friday morning in Chicago's Avondale neighborhood. It is believed to be the first bike-share fatality in United States history.

A 25-year-old woman on the bike was turning onto Belmont Avenue from Sacramento around 9 a.m. and collided with a flatbed truck, which was driving beside her and turning the same direction according to a DNAinfo Chicago report.

The woman suffered injuries to her upper body and was declared deceased at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
