CHA Open House for Lathrop Homes

This week the CHA will host two Open Houses (Thursday, November 15th from 3-8 PM and on Saturday, November 17th from 12-4 PM) to present three"scenarios"for the revitalization of the Lathrop Homes – the public housing development at the Damen, Clybourn and Diversey intersection – to the surrounding community.

In reality, these three proposed scenarios all represent the same, basic idea.

All 3 Scenarios:

- Impose high-density development that would tower over the neighborhood. (The CHA is proposing 1600 units - one of the scenarios includes a 28 story building!)

- Create traffic gridlock - RV is already starting to have increased traffic and this could make the problem even worse.

- Burden local taxpayers - the CHA is trying to create a TIF district to pay for the expenses of the construction.

-  Bring an excess of risky market rate development into the area.

Please attend either open house (you can drop in whenever you can) and see what the CHA is proposing for the Roscoe Village and Hamlin Park neighborhoods.
