Man In Custody After Standoff On Sheridan Station Tracks

The man caused a brief shutdown at the Sheridan Road station Tuesday after he ran onto the tracks, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A man ran onto the CTA Red Line tracks on the city's North Side Tuesday, police said. Officers were called to the Sheridan Road station just before noon, and service was halted in both directions between Belmont and Howard. Transit Officers and a SWAT team also arrived on scene.

Around 12:05 p.m., CTA tweeted that an "unauthorized person" was on the tracks. Service was restored around 12:50 p.m. after the man was taken into custody.

The Chicago Tribune reported the man may have had a knife, and that power was shut off so officers could speak to him safely.
