Midnight Fire Damages Northcenter Garage

It took firefighters mere minutes to get a garage fire under control early Thursday.

They responded shortly after midnight to the alley behind 1843 W. Waveland Ave. in Northcenter, where the western corner of a garage was engulfed in flames. The building is located very near Waveland's intersection with Lincoln Avenue.

Neighbors called 911 after hearing a pop, they said, followed by the crackling noise of the fire.

No one was injured in the blaze and firefighter personnel even managed to salvage a compact car housed in the garage.

They remained on scene around 12:30 a.m., using their fire tools to open up a section of the roof to ensure there weren't any flare-ups.

Firefighters couldn't say for certain what ignited the fire.
