New Vet Cancer and Rehab Center Opens!

The Center is comprised of two veterinary practices, the Chicago Veterinary Cancer Center, and the PawsitivEnergy Rehabilitation Center. These new practices work together with the emergency and specialty practices located across the street at the Chicago Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center. This coordinated care between ER veterinarians and 21 veterinary specialists makes this campus a unique and valuable asset to the Chicagoland veterinary community.

The Cancer Center opened its doors in September with Dr. Jaclyn Smith as the Medical Oncologist and Dr. Jayme Looper as the Radiation Oncologist. Drs. Smith and Looper work together to determine if Chemotherapy and/or Radiation therapy is the best option for each individual pet's treatment needs. This will be Chicago’s first and only veterinary radiation therapy center under the direction of a board certified radiation oncologist. There is a Varian EX Linear accelerator with ARIA software for intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) to optimize sparing of normal surrounding tissues, allowing for safer treatment of soft tissue, bone and nervous system tumors with less adverse effects.

PawsitivEnergy is a comprehensive targeted veterinary rehabilitation center under the direction of Dr. Kevin Jones, a certified canine rehabilitation practitioner. His philosophy is to use rehabilitation medicine to improve and maintain the best quality of life for all patients and their owners. This center provides:

·         Hudson AquaPaws Plus computerized hydro-treadmill with resistance jets

·         Hudson Aquatherapy Pool

·         Laser and Shockwave therapy

·         Focused physical therapy for improving a pet’s quality of life during recovery from recent surgery or illness
