Police Seek Public's Help Solving Avondale Homicide
Chicago police are hoping someone will come forward with information about the city's first homicide of 2018.

CHICAGO, IL — Area North detectives are asking for the public's help solving a homicide that happened on New Year's Day. A man was found shot to death in a crashed car in the Avondale neighborhood on Chicago's Northwest Side, police said. The man's death marked the first homicide of 2018.
Police said Janusz C. Kolodziejczyk, 51, was shot in the back around 2:20 a.m. while driving south on Pulaski Road. The car he was driving, a Toyota Camry, crashed into a fence in the 3900 block of West Cornelia, police said. Kolodziejczyk was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 51-year-old is described as Eastern European, 5-foot-11, 190 lbs with light brown hair and blue eyes.

Police have issued an alert asking for information about where Kolodziejczyk was on New Year's Eve before he died. Anyone with information is asked to contact Area North detectives at (312) 744-8261.
