Ravenswood Sewer Project May Take Longer Than Expected

An ongoing Roscoe Village construction project scheduled to wrap up today may take a bit longer than crews initially projected, officials said.

A Roscoe Village sewer main project scheduled to wrap up today may take longer than expected, officials said last week.

The original sewer stretching south down Ravenswood between Roscoe Street and Belmont Avenue dated back to 1887, 32nd Ward Ald. Scott Waguespack said. Its replacement, which has been under way, was originally scheduled to wrap up today, March 4.

But the project is running behind, in part, because conflicting work by the gas company and electrical employees, Waguespack said. It also may take longer than projected because crews from the city's water department will need to replace curbs and ensure concrete work is compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Resurfacing and landscaping in the area is slated fro the spring and summer, Waguespack said. He said at least two of the trees' root bases had become curbs and were completely integrated into the street and sewer.

Officials are setting up a meeting sometime this month to include concerned residents and those from the city's water and forestry departments.
