Woman Killed, Mother Injured After Being Hit By SUV In Avondale

The two women were struck in a parking lot off West Addison, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A 76-year-old woman and her 96-year-old mother were struck by an SUV in Avondale, authorities said. The two were getting into their car in a strip mall parking lot in the 2900 block of West Addison when they were hit, police said. The incident happened Tuesday afternoon just after 3 p.m.

Police said an 89-year-old man was trying to park his Chevy Tahoe, and had a problem with the gas pedal. His vehicle accelerated, hitting the two women and several parked cars, police said.

The women were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said. The 76-year-old woman was pronounced dead around 7:30 p.m., according to officials.
