McDonald's Refreshes Drink Menu in Efforts to Outdo Sonic
Yes, McDonald's Minute Maid Slushies are real. The Oak Brook-based fast food giant seeks to compete with growing competition from Sonic.

OAK BROOK, IL — With increasing competition and a faltering market share, McDonald's has taken a cue from the playbook of one of its biggest competitors, Sonic. McDonald's started a test run of its Minute Maid slush drinks at 6,000 locations throughout the U.S. this month, spokeswoman Becca Hary told Nation's Restaurant News. If the trial is successful, you may see Minute Maid Slushies at a McDonald's near you.
The first Minute Maid Slushies at McDonald's will come in three flavors: Orangeade, Cherry Limeade and Fruit Punch. Customers at select locations in Illinois, Michigan, Georgia, Ohio and Texas will be the first to enjoy this treat during the trial run.
In the face of a decreasing year-over-year growth, McDonald's Corp. (MCD) also lowered prices for sodas and McCafe drinks this spring. The company hopes Minute Maid Slushies — arriving just in time for summer — will bring delicious profits.
