McDonald's Surprises 99-Year-Old Woman With 99 Free Ice Cream Cones
Monica Affleck, 99, of River Forest, eats a McDonald's ice cream cone every day. McDonald's gave her a gift card for 99 cones Wednesday.

OAK BROOK, IL — For Monica Affleck, 99, of River Forest, it seems McDonald's soft serve ice cream may be the key to living a long life. Although Affleck is older than the fast food restaurant itself, she has had a fixation for McDonald's ice cream cones that has led her to eat hundreds in her lifetime and to indulge in one every single day for the past two years. For her birthday, she was gifted an extra sweet treat when McDonald's surprised Affleck with an gift card good for 99 ice cream cones.
Affleck, who will turn 100 in February, was honored Wednesday afternoon in a special ceremony at the McDonald's at 600 North Clark St. in downtown Chicago. Her daughter, Jane Morocco, who was present at the event, told McDonald's that the yummy obsession started when the two would make treks to Morton Arboretum in Lisle and hasn't let up since. Her mother, a retired Chicago Public Schools teacher, eats a cone each day, even if the weather is frigid in Chicago.
“It’s the soft texture and taste she likes so much. I let her have as much as she wants — at 99 years old, she’s earned that,” Morocco is quoted as saying in a release from McDonald's. Morocco delivers the cones herself if Affleck decides she wants to stay in for the day, which gives the company's new McDelivery service a healthy bit of competition.

Let's hope more than three month's worth of ice cream will be able to quench Affleck's intense cone cravings for the rest of summer.
