Police Break Car Window to Save Oak Brook Man Who Overdosed While Driving

Riverside police smashed a car window to save an Oak Brook man who overdosed on heroin behind the wheel. He is charged with drugged driving.

OAK BROOK, IL — A Riverside police officer broke through a car window to save an Oak Brook man who overdosed on heroin while driving and crashed in Riverside last Wednesday. A police officer was called to the scene after witnesses saw the man’s 2009 Toyota veer off of the roadway just before 7 p.m. at 40 E. Burlington Ave. They arrived to find the man slumped against the steering wheel and unresponsive.

Upon arrival, the officer reportedly attempted to knock on the windows and to enter the vehicle, eventually resorting to breaking the car’s passenger window with a baton, according Chicago Sun-Times. Paramedics arrived shortly after and administered three shots of Narcan before rushing the man to MacNeal Hospital in nearby Berwyn.

The man, identified as Michael Mola, 60, of Oak Brook, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs. CBS reported that Mola thanked Riverside police for saving his life.
