Want A Job At McDonald’s This Summer? It’s A Snap(chat)!
This summer, McDonald's hopes to add 250,000 new hires with the help of Snapchat video ads and in-app "Snaplications."
OAK BROOK, IL — McDonald’s is looking to hire 250,000 people this summer, but it's not going about it in a traditional way. The Oak Brook-based fast food company announced Monday that it will use Snapchat to target teens and early twenty-somethings who are looking for a summer gig. Their new tool will allow job hopefuls to begin an application online via the Snapchat app. And yes, they’re calling it a "Snaplication."
The 10-second video job ads will kick off on June 13 and will feature a real-life McDonald’s employee talking about the benefits of working for the fast food chain. If the Snapchat user swipes up on the ad, they’ll be redirected to the career page for McDonald’s on Snapchat, where they can browse job openings and start the application —er, Snaplication— process.
McDonald’s is trying similar approaches on Hulu and Spotify in an effort to target younger workers for what they refer to as “America’s best first job.” In a statement, McDonald’s Senior Director of Human Relations Jez Langhorn said, “We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to find job seekers. We thought Snaplications was a great way to allow us to meet job seekers where they are – their phones.”
