OAK FOREST, IL — Oak Forest police are investigating after a cyclist was struck by a car Thursday evening, police said Friday morning.
Around 6:38 p.m. on Thursday, Oak Forest police and fire personnel responded to a traffic crash involving a bicyclist at the intersection of 159th Street and Ridgeland Avenue.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that an 18-year-old woman from Tinley Park was exiting the bike path and entering the roadway when she was struck by a westbound motor vehicle on 159th Street. The vehicle was driven by a 76-year-old man from Tinley Park.
The cyclist was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center, police said.
Due to the investigation, portions of 159th Street and Ridgeland Avenue were closed for several hours before being reopened to traffic.
The crash remains under investigation by the South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team. No further information is available at this time.
