Oak Forest Police Deputy Chief Rises To Rank Of Chief

OAK FOREST, IL — The City of Oak Forest on Monday announced the appointment of Dominic D'Ambrosio to the role of police chief.

D'Ambrosio succeeds Scott Durano, who retired on May 29 after three decades with the department.

“Dominic will bring a high level of law enforcement expertise and leadership skills to this position,” said Mayor Pro Tem Jim Emmett. “He is dedicated to listening to our residents and business owners in an effort to work collaboratively to strengthen our neighborhoods and commercial areas.”

Chief D’Ambrosio joined the Oak Forest Police Department in 2002 as a patrol officer and later became the department’s first full-time tactical investigator. He was promoted to sergeant in 2009, where he supervised patrol operations and managed the department’s Tactical Investigation Team. In 2012, he was promoted to deputy chief and has since served in multiple executive leadership roles, including deputy chief of support services and deputy chief of the patrol division.

During his tenure with the department, Chief D’Ambrosio has played a significant role in departmental operations, policy development, accreditation, leadership development, and community-focused policing initiatives. He has overseen major operational responses, supervised department-wide initiatives, and helped guide the organization through evolving public safety challenges over more than two decades of service.

Chief D’Ambrosio holds a bachelor’s degree from Governors State University and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in public administration from University of the Southwest. He is a graduate of the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy’s Management and Leadership Development Program and is a certified police chief through the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.
