Oak Forest Police Sergeant Promoted To Deputy Chief Role: City

OAK FOREST, IL — The City of Oak Forest has named Jason Doornkaat as deputy police chief, effective June 9.

"Jason’s experience, attention to detail and sound judgment will serve him well as deputy chief of Patrol Services," said Police Chief Dominic D’Ambrosio. "I have worked with Jason for more than 20 years and know him to be a respected leader, who leads by example. His professionalism, integrity and commitment to the department will continue to benefit both our employees and the community."

Doornkaat joins D'Ambrosio among the department's new leaders, with D'Ambrosio appointed to the role of chief earlier this month. D'Ambrosio succeeded Scott Durano, who retired on May 29 after three decades with the department.

Doornkaat has been a member of the Oak Forest Police Department since 2004, serving as a range officer, field training officer, range supervisor, and Drug Enforcement Administration task force officer. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2016, most recently serving as sergeant of the detective division.

Prior to becoming a police officer, Doornkaat attended Northern Illinois University and Moraine Valley Community College. He is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, an intensive leadership and management education program that helps prepare experienced law enforcement professionals for success in senior command positions.
