Oak Forest High School launched National Arts in Education Week with a schoolwide celebration showcasing the creativity, talent and energy of its Fine and Performing Arts students.
Organized and facilitated by Jennifer Reid, the celebration transformed the school cafeteria into a lively arts showcase throughout all lunch periods. Interactive tables gave students opportunities to connect with their peers, participate in activities and learn more about Oak Forest High School's visual arts classes, musical ensembles and theatrical productions.
The event also welcomed recently retired educator Dan Chambers back to Oak Forest High School for a pottery wheel demonstration. Choir students added to the celebration by serenading the cafeteria during their class periods.
Students enthusiastically embraced the event, stopping at tables, asking questions and participating in the activities. The showcase placed Oak Forest High School's talented students and outstanding Fine and Performing Arts programs front and center while introducing more Bengals to the many ways they can become involved.
"Here at Oak Forest, we are proud to promote our talented students who are enrolled in visual arts classes and musical ensembles or participate in our theatrical productions," Reid said.
National Arts in Education Week, observed Sept. 13–19, recognizes the important role the arts play in providing students with a well-rounded education. Schools across the country mark the week by highlighting courses and programs dedicated to the visual and performing arts.
The creativity and commitment of Oak Forest High School's student artists are among the many qualities that make the school a special place to learn, grow and belong.
