$500K In Lifted Copper Wire, Trailer Stolen From Oak Forest Discovered Hundreds Of Miles Away: Sheriff

OAK FOREST, IL — A trailer reported stolen from Oak Forest was used to transport a half-million dollars in copper wire

On Sept. 11, the Sheriff's Police Organized Retail Crime unit began an investigation after receiving information that a trailer that had been stolen from Oak Forest was used to fraudulently pick up six pallets of copper wire reels in Dekalb the day before, the sheriff's office said.

Working with CargoNet, investigators learned that the trailer was tracking to a warehouse in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Kentucky State Police and local agencies responded, and after receiving consent from the warehouse owner to search the building and recovered one pallet of wire in the warehouse and the other five pallets in another trailer, the sheriff's office said.

Authorities took Christopher Michael Delagdo and Haykaz Gasparyan into custody.

The trailer that was stolen from Oak Forest, however, was still missing. Sheriff's police investigators learned that it was tracking to a truck stop in Chillicothe, Ohio. Local law enforcement there recovered the trailer at stop.

Authorities there located the driver, Verzon Denise Fonzville, and took her into custody.

"What great work by investigators in three different states to recover more than a half million dollars in stolen materials," the sheriff's office said.

Authorities did not provide ages or hometowns of the three taken into custody.
