All Treat, No Trick! Oak Forest Extends Trick-Or-Treat Hours For 2026

OAK FOREST, IL — Oak Forest trick-or-treaters will get a little more time to make their rounds this Halloween.

With Halloween falling on a Saturday, the City of Oak Forest has extended trick-or-treat hours, officials announced Wednesday.

Hours will be 1 to 6 p.m. this year, officials agreed at Tuesday's City Council meeting. The council will formally approve the new timeframe at its Oct. 13 meeting, but you can bank on the extra hours even now.

Parents should keep the following tips in mind to ensure everyone stays safe and has a spooky good time:

• Stay in groups.
• Always stay on sidewalks when possible.
• Flashlights or glowsticks can help with visibility.
• A responsible adult should accompany young children.
• If your older children are going alone, plan and review a route acceptable to you. Agree on a specific time children should return home. Remind children to travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and stick with their friends.
• Examine all treats before eating them.
• Put electronic devices down, keep heads up and walk, don't run, across the street.
