DOLTON, IL — Dolton police are investigating after a man was shot to death outside a gas station Tuesday.
The shooting took place Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 2:38 p.m. in the 14400 block of Lincoln Avenue, near the Citgo gas station.
Police at the scene found a 28-year-old man inside a black Chrysler 300 suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man has since been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner as Cordell Roberson, of Lansing. Roberseon was transported to Ingalls Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:09 p.m.
Preliminary investigative findings, including surveillance footage obtained from the location, indicate that an unidentified individual exited the passenger side of the victim's vehicle, walked toward the driver's side, produced a firearm, and discharged multiple rounds into the vehicle, police said in a release Wednesday.
Dolton Police Department command staff and investigators responded to the scene. The Illinois State Police and the Major Crimes Task Force were also notified to assist with the investigation.
At this time, no suspect information is available for public release, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
"The Dolton Police Department remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation and working collaboratively with its law enforcement partners to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident," police said in a release.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available and as the investigation permits, police said.
