Animal Rescue Searching for Person Who Shot Beloved Outdoor Cat

"Pumpkin" was a cat filtered through the trap, neuter, release program, and was protected by county and state ordinance.

An Oak Forest nonprofit is looking for the person who shot a well-known outdoor cat in the head with a pellet gun.

“Pumpkin” was a ”friendly, outdoor cat, well-cared for, and healthy,” Triple R Pets wrote on their Facebook page. He was found January 12 in the 15200 block of LaPorte, with a pellet lodged in his brain. He was brought to a veterinarian nearby, but the concussion was not treatable. Pumpkin died three days later.

He was a registered colony cat—meaning he was feral when he was trapped, neutered, vaccinated, chipped, and returned to his surroundings. He is registered with Triple R Pets Animal Rescue, and is protected by both county and state law.
