Third Anniversary of Felix Jimenez's Murder Passes Without a Trial

Friday marks the 3-year anniversary for the death of Felix Jimenez, an Oak Forest graduate who was stabbed during a party on Arroyo Drive.

It was about 11 months ago that the judge in murder trial set the first court date for the man accused of murdering Jimenez, Derek Grib. On Thursday, the trial was once again delayed.

"Look at this, a year later and we're still here," said Keelan McClintock of Tinley Park, one of Jimanez' high school friends, shortly after Judge Frank Zelezinski set the trial date for Aug. 21.

The Cook County Assistant State's Attorney trying the Grib case told the family Thursday that he is currently prosecuting another murder trial at the same time and that the county is understaffed.

"They're saying if it doesn't go to (Aug. 21), it could go as late as October, McClintock said.

The trial is expected to take only two days.

Grib is charged with fatally stabbing Jimenez, an Oak Forest High School graduate who had military aspirations, on July 12, 2009. Jimenez died shortly after midnight the next day.
