Bank of America Awards Bremen District 228 Grant Through its Volunteer Grants Program
Students benefited from the award through community service and/or good behavior efforts
Bremen High School District 228 Board Vice-President Kristine Resler was recently recognized by her employer, Bank of America, for her service as a School Board Member. Mrs. Resler applied for a grant through Bank of America’s Volunteer Grants Program.
The Bank ‘matched’ Mrs. Resler’s efforts by awarding District 228 a $500 grant. District 228 received the $500 check and Resler’s only request was that the students benefit from the award through community service and/or good behavior efforts. The grant monies were split equally in the amount of $125 for each D228 high school.
At Bremen High School Christian Mercardo and Richard Rhein were recognized for their work volunteering at the Robbins History Museum. These young men performed custodial duties, repaired historic items, organized the museum and assisted with technology needs. They each received $75 for their community service efforts.

At Tinley Park High School the monies were used to support the Titan Fest Program. Titan Fest is a celebration held at the end of the school year for students who display good behavior throughout the year. The students honored were treated to activities including bean bags, a game truck, an inflatable jousting ring, a dunk tank, a game of soccer and refreshments.
At Hillcrest High School Courtney Collier was honored for her community service efforts. She performed the most community service as a member of the Hillcrest National Honor Society and received a check in the amount of $125 for her volunteer efforts.

At Oak Forest High School the monies were used to buy gift cards that were awarded to students at the Bengal Bash. The Bengal Bash celebrates students who did not receive any disciplinary action throughout the school year. At the event, students played many games such as balloon pop and egg toss, and received various prizes. The recipients of the gift cards purchased with Mrs. Resler’s grant were Kathryn Chavez, Allison Griffin, Alyssa Pacella, Kassandra Salgado Osorio, Yahir Sanchez, Madelena Tancredi and Tyler Turnbull.
Mrs. Resler was very excited that her efforts could benefit so many students. She said, “I am so proud to work for Bank of America because they have the foresight to recognize the volunteer work of their employees through the Volunteer Grants Program. I also enjoy the time I give to Bremen High School District 228 as a School Board Member so it would only be appropriate that this grant would go directly to District 228 students. I personally want to congratulate each student that benefited from the monies received.”
