Be A Weather Spotter — Sign Up For Free Training In Oak Forest
If you've always wanted to learn more about bad storms, Oak Forest is sponsoring a free National Weather Service weather spotter training.
OAK FOREST, IL — The National Weather Service will be holding a free basic weather spotter training for professionals and other citizens who need or want to understand how to protect others during hazardous weather.
The SKYWARN® program is designed for a range of interested people, including police and fire personnel, dispatchers, EMS workers, public utility workers and private citizens. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, schools, churches and nursing homes or who have a responsibility for protecting others are also encouraged to become a spotter.
The raining is free and lasts about two hours.

During the training, you will learn:
- Basics of thunderstorm development
- Fundamentals of storm structure
- Identifying potential severe weather features
- Information to report
- How to report information
- Basic severe weather safety
NWS Basic Spotter training will be held at 7:15 p.m., Fri., April 26, at the Oak Forest City Hall, 15440 Central Ave. If the main entrance is locked, enter through the police department entrance and turn right inside the building to find the chamber hall.
