Boys Swimming: Oak Forest Claims Conference Title

Bengals ride Will Strale's sweep of freestyle sprint races to fourth straight championship. Tinley Park splashes to second-place finish.

Will Strale swept the freestyle sprint races. And the Oak Forest boys swimming team swept to its fourth straight conference championship.

The Bengals scored 269 points in Monday's South Suburban Blue Conference meet at Oak Forest and pulled away from the rest of the pack. Tinley Park placed second with 228 points, followed by Lemont 159, Bremen 152 and the TF co-op 59.

Strale won both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events. He was clocked in 22.71 and 50.25 seconds. Other Oak Forest individual winners included Cullen Stine (100 butterfly, 57.45), Casey Gallagher (100 backstroke, 58.58) and Joe Behrens (100 breaststroke, 1:08.60).

The Bengals also won two relay events. The team of Gallagher, Stine, Behrens and Strale took the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:46.37, and the team of Strale, Dan Minnich, Gallagher and Chris Reed took the 200-yard freestyle at 1:34.7.

The lone winner for Lemont was Gregg Husa. He placed first the 200-yard freeestyle with a time of 1:55.24.

Bremen had two individual winners: Josh Williams (200 I.M., 2:13.69) and Mitch McGowan (diving, 279 points). Tinley Park's Andrew Griffen won the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 5:13.87, and the Titans' 400 free relay team of Griffin, Dan Shaunnessey, Tyler Bettenhausen and Adrian Ledesma placed first with a time of 3:35.68.
