Bremen HS Celebrates National World Language Week
Several departments pitched in to help celebrate
Bremen High School’s World Language Department recently celebrated National Foreign Language Week. The theme of the week was “Learn Another Language, Gain a New Perspective.” The World Language teachers worked collaboratively with several other departments in the building to plan a successful week. The IMC staff created beautiful displays promoting learning another language through books, and science teacher Mr. Willus Vivian brought samosas, a traditional Indian appetizer that is a fried pastry with fillings such as spiced potatoes, onions, peas, lentils, or meats, for the students to sample, and the Sodexo cafeteria staff prepared delicious cuisines from around the world!
World Language Club members started the day by making daily announcements in different languages. Freshmen Shraddha Patel made an announcement in her native language of Gujarati, sophomore Chancella Maless-Sackot did announcements in her native language of French, senior Ada Garcia welcomed students back from the weekend in both English and Spanish, and junior Marlene Chavez spoke about her “one word” for the year in both English and Spanish. “It was pretty cool listening to the students speak in their native languages. Sometimes we forget that we all come from different backgrounds,” said freshmen Kenadi Ferguson.
