Bremen HS Celebrates Veterans Day

Students sent over 400 thank cards and hosted a poppy drive

Bremen High School is proud to announce that students came together to write over 400 thank you cards and letters for veterans in honor of Veterans Day. Mrs. Arguelles, Mr. Lynch, Ms. Guzak’s Digital Literacy classes, Ms. Dyrcon, Snowball Club and World Language Club helped to show how truly great it is to be a Brave! Three hundred thank you cards were hand delivered at the Veteran's Home in Manteno, while the remaining cards and letters were mailed to BHS staff or families of staff and students. Bremen junior Zoe Gurick came up with the idea to do a Poppy Drive at Bremen High School for the VFW in Midlothian. It has been an important goal of the American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Program to hand out millions of red crepe handmade paper poppies on both Memorial Day and Veterans Day to symbolize the sacrifice of service made by our veterans. The Poppy program is nationwide; poppies are exchanged for small donations. The donations go directly to assist disabled and hospitalized veterans in our community. Zoe commented, "The field trip was great but also very sad because not a lot of people visit our veterans." All money collected during the BHS Poppy Drive will be donated to the VFW of Midlothian, who supplied Bremen with all of the poppies and donation cans. Students pictured are Emanuel Quam, Anthony Cardinal, RJ White, Uriel Gonzalez, Jennifer Riebel, Artavius Johnson, Second Row: Dominique Donegan, Alejandra Orozco, Madisun Sheppard, Tatyana Wilkins, Michael Dudek, Brianna Anton, Kiauna Rieves, Ashley Rodriguez, Hannah Mango, and Joselyn Herrera. Way to go Bremen HS!
