Bremen High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students traveled to Tinley Park High School to participate in a FCCLA program called Stop the Violence. The program empowers youth with attitudes, skills, and resources in order to recognize, report, and reduce youth violence. After attending this program, students were able to reach out to their peers with violence prevention techniques, recognize warning signs of potential youth violence, and encourage youth to report troubled behavior.
While at the program, Bremen students were able to meet and work with students from the other District 228 schools - Hillcrest, Oak Forest and Tinley Park High Schools. They worked on posters and listened to three speakers that spoke about the importance of making themselves and others aware of all types of violence.
Guest speakers were Susan Brauer, a victim of domestic violence; Otis Lane and Maurice Johnson, who were involved in gang violence; and Ryan Gulli, a Midlothian police officer who deals with violence on a regular basis.
