Bremen HS Hosts My Block, My Hood, My City's Jahmal Cole for Event
My Block, My Hood, My City founder, and CEO Jahmal Cole held an inspiring event for our Bremen High School students on March 9.

MIDLOTHIAN, IL - On Thursday, March 9, Bremen High School welcomed Jahmal Cole, the Founder and CEO of Chicago’s fastest-growing social impact organization, My Block My Hood My City. Cole hosted an inspiring assembly for our Bremen High School juniors, seniors, and underclassmen involved in our leadership clubs.
The assembly focused on the inspiring story of Cole’s upbringing, what ultimately led him to social justice work, and empowering youth to do more than what others might expect of them. Jahmal is the creator of an exposure-based education program for teens and a network of volunteer initiatives that serve Chicago communities year-round. He has a number of books published, received an honorary Doctorate Degree in Humanities and Philanthropy from Adler University, and was voted best activist by the Chicago Reader.
“I want to encourage kids to step outside their comfort zones, and inspire hope. Even though you have obstacles that can detour you, they can’t derail you off your road to success,” Cole said. “I wanted to share my personal story because I want to encourage other people to share their stories. I also want to encourage everyone to be an activist in their own neighborhoods, meaning you just have to have the heart to help people, keep an ear to the streets, and rapidly respond to what’s going on.”

Students had a number of questions for Cole, many of which involved the start of entrepreneurship and the path to a successful career after high school. Cole was also able to connect with students who had additional questions after the assembly wrapped up.
