Bremen HS Hosts Read-A-Thon

Members of the Circle Book Club enjoyed four uninterrupted hours of reading in the IMC

Bremen High School’s Circle Book Club held its Annual Read-a-Thon on October 26. Members met in the Media Center from 3-7pm enjoying four hours of uninterrupted reading and great company! With snacks and the comfort of the IMC, all the readers were relaxed and able to get lost in their books! The Annual Read-a-Thon is one of the club’s fundraisers to assist in purchasing novels. With over 20 members in the group, purchasing one novel can run them anywhere from $150-$200. The club will read at least five novels this year; the cost adds up quickly. Fortunately, over the last 15 years of the Circle's existence, Mrs. Ignelzi, the club's sponsor, has created a library of its purchased books for repeated use. “Good books have a long shelf life; they never spoil or go out of style!” said Ignelzi. For its first novel, the club read Denton Little's Death Date by Lance Rubin. They are hoping to purchase its sequel: Denton Little's Still Not Dead. If Circle can collect enough money, they hope to order Scythe (Arc of a Scythe) and its sequel Thunderhead (Arc of a Scythe Book 2) by acclaimed young adult author Neal Shusterman. In addition, with support of Ms. Bernas and in cooperation with Bremen's IMC, Circle will read Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu. Ms. Mathieu visited Bremen the previous year to talk about her other books with students. Members will have the opportunity to have a live video chat with the author after they read Moxie like they did with Eric Laster, author of Static. Circle book club is open to all BHS students; students can join at any time during the school year. For more information on donating to Circle Book Club or students of BHS joining Circle Book Club please contact Sponsor Mrs. Ignelzi at aignelzi@bhsd228.com.
