Bremen HS Interact Club Participates in Global Youth Service Day

Global Youth Service Day is the largest community service event in the world

Bremen High School's Interact Club students participated in 2017 Global Youth Service Day on Saturday, April 22. Junior Danielle Carten started the service project by holding a donation drive at Bremen. She collected used items to bring to the Teen Bridge Center in Tinley Park. Once the donation drive was complete EXCEL students then brought the donations to the Bridge Teen Center Thrift Store. After the donations were delivered, Jessica Vieyra (senior), Danielle Carten (junior) and Juana Garcia (junior) volunteered their time to the Teen Bridge Center Thrift Shop to assist during GYSD. The students learned how the thrift store is staffed with local teens and that the money raised from the thrift store is then used to keep the Teen Bridge Center free for youth! Bridge Teen Center is an innovative nonprofit community center that was designed around the interests and needs of teens in the southern suburbs. The Bridge Teen Center mission is to provide free programs during after-school and unsupervised hours where students can develop mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually in a safe environment. “We were amazed at the amount of outpouring help that the center receives from teens and community members. My favorite part was getting to interact with teens from other high schools that are willing to make changes. The day was truly a lot of fun!” said Senior Jessica Vieyra. Global Youth Service Day is the largest community service event in the world, and the only event dedicated to celebrating the contributions that young people make to their communities year-round.
