Bremen HS Spanish 1 Students Hold Lucha Libre Matches
Students created their own 'luchadores' and held 'lucha libre' matches
Bremen High School teacher Ms. Kristen Kaczmarek got crafty when teaching about Spanish culture. Kaczmarek’s Spanish 1 students had fun learning about Spanish culture when they created their own luchadores (fighters) and held Lucha Libre (masked fighting) matches in the classroom. The students created a mask out of gloves and had a thumb wrestling tournament. They had fun creating an individualized mask and learning about the sport.
“It was nice to see them having fun while learning about Spanish culture! We are currently studying deportes (sports) and we always learn about baseball, basketball and soccer. It was fun to mix it up,” said Kaczmarek. The students had fun learning about fancy wrestling moves and the history behind the sport. “We also compare and contrast the sport to WWE in American culture. It was amazing to see how much fun the students had with the project and how engaged they were with the lessons. I will absolutely do this lesson again next year!” exclaimed Kaczmarek.
