Bremen HS Students Come Together for a Week of Cooking Collaboration
The Family & Consumer Science and Special Education EXCEL students made Lucky Charm treats and Shamrock shakes
Ms. Brittney Ghezzi’s Culinary Arts students and Ms. Meredith Madden’s EXCEL Functional Life Skills students paired up to collaborate and cook! Students from each teacher’s 8th hour class joined together in order to brainstorm recipes to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Once recipes of Lucky Charm Treats and Shamrock Shakes were selected, students worked together to plan grocery lists, create recipe procedures, and to choose cooking groups and roles. Students worked in small groups to peer teach one another. “Making shamrock shakes with new friends was cool. I want to do this again!” commented student Deja Courtney. Mr. Matt Kentner, paraprofessional, commented that, “It was great to see students take an active role in their learning and to discover a new appreciation for their own skills.” Ms. Ghezzi and Ms. Madden plan to incorporate quarterly collaboration labs between their classes in order to provide general and special education students more opportunities to promote positive peer relationships, social growth and understanding, and to acknowledge their own academic and social strengths. For more questions regarding the collaboration cooking labs, please contact Ms. Ghezzi at bghezzi@bhsd228.com or Ms. Madden at mmadden@bhsd228.com.
