Bremen HS Students Dive into Gas Laws

Students visit Scuba Emporium to experience real-life application of gas laws

Bremen High School Chemistry students took a “dive” into gas laws this month! Mrs. Jessica Rucinski’s chemistry students participated in a field trip to Scuba Emporium in Orland Park to experience real-life application of gas laws, a unit in Chemistry they have been studying. It provided direct instruction from certified divers, all of which had a strong science background, along with hands on learning as it relates to the study of gases.

“As a certified scuba diver, I share many personal experiences with students in class to teach them real-world applications of gas laws. This trip allowed students the opportunity to bring our class discussions to life by experiencing scuba first-hand. The instructors were very impressed with how well the students behaved and how fast they picked up and implemented the concepts. Many students expressed an interest in pursuing the full scuba certification in the future,” said Rucinski.

“My favorite part of scuba diving was getting to find out why you shouldn’t ever come up to fast! Many people felt their ears pop, just like Mrs. Runinski warned us about in class, said student Victor Garcia.
