Bremen HS Students & Families Come Together to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
Traditional dancing, food, presentations and a DJ come together to celebrate

As the month of October comes to an end, Bremen High School’s World Language Department is finishing up an extremely busy month! There were several Hispanic Heritage events that took place but the largest was the evening celebration where not only students but families and the community were welcome to attend.
Students in the Bremen World Languages Club put their skills and interests to use and came together to put on an amazing event! Students made PowerPoint presentations on each of the Spanish speaking countries around the world. Senior Jonathon Sanchez put all the individual PowerPoints together as part of “Google Docs” while Houston Weatherly made sure that the slides ran smoothly during the celebration.
Members also volunteered to make food from their respective country. Dyncia Dixon made sure that the food was set for the evening as well as being one of the Masters of Ceremony for the night. Jessica Zayas (whose family owns DJ Zayas disc jockey business) served as an amazing disc jockey for the night. Bremen student Ana Karen Lagunas read an original poem to the crowd.

Ms. Ortega, Bremen Spanish teacher, organized a group of Fuego dancers to perform modern Mexican dances. One of Ms. Ortega’s Heritage Spanish 2 students, David Garcia, gave a presentation on one of the Aztec Gods. While Ms. Mathis, Spanish teacher from Oak Forest High School, sent two girls to perform in the traditional folkloric dresses from Mexico.
Bremen’s very own Mrs. Gina Arguelles not only oversaw the entire event, she also invited two Bremen students - Guadalupe Rodriguez and Ariana Vieyra - to perform as well. Their parents were so proud to see them perform. Rodriguez’ mom, Eva, was so happy to see her daughter dance, “It was so nice to see her dance again. She hasn’t danced since she started high school since she has been so busy.”
