Bremen HS Students Learn to Fly
iFLY wind tunnel is a marvel of math, science and engineering that connects classroom learning to the real world
Bremen High School Chemistry students had an action packed March! Mrs. Jessica Rucinski took her students to experience the thrill of skydiving in a vertical wind tunnel! The iFLY wind tunnel is a marvel of math, science and engineering that connects classroom learning to the real world. With prior knowledge in physics and chemistry, students were able to actively participate in interactive discussions, experiments, and calculations that made STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) both relevant and exciting. Students learned how engineers designed the wind tunnel, what forces are at work on objects in flight, and even used their personal measurements to calculate their individual terminal velocities while flying in the tunnel. A great time was had by all and many students plan to return to iFLY in the future to introduce their friends and family to the experience. “My experience skydiving was amazing; I loved the technical part of how the system works. The best part of the trip was seeing my teacher fall and try to get back up again with the wind pushing against her,” said sophomore Ashley Moore.
