Bremen HS Students Participate in 'Hour of Code'
Microcomputer Interdisciplinary Applications students are introduced to "coding"
Computers are everywhere, but fewer schools teach computer science than 10 years ago. Girls and minorities are severely underrepresented in the computer science industry. In one week last year, 15 million students tried computer science! Computer science was on homepages of Google, MSN, Yahoo! and Disney. President Obama, Shakira and Ashton Kutcher all kicked off the Hour of Code with personal videos to students. This year, the Hour of Code movement aimed for 100 million students.
Mrs. Amber Guzak, Bremen High School Business Technology Teacher, participated with her students this year. Students were introduced to “coding” and computer science through several tutorial videos and personal messages from well-known celebrities and politicians.
“The students really enjoyed themselves! I allowed them to choose their own paths based on their interest level, as well as how comfortable they were with computer science. Every student that participated was engaged and had a great time!” said Guzak.
