Bremen HS Takes Acts of Kindness to a Superior Level Bringing Blessing Bags to Chicago’s Homeless

Students organized collection of items and then hand delivered the blessing bags

Ask any staff member at Bremen High School and they will tell you that Bremen is full of amazing young adults that want to do good in the world! When a group of students approached the Social Worker, Ms. Connelly, and asked if they could put together blessing bags for the homeless, she knew she had to help. The Bremen community came together and donated items to the cause. Some of the items included (but were not limited to) reusable shopping bags, dry snacks, lip balm, socks, hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves. “This was an amazing experience that truly impacted the students that organized and delivered the bags! Seeing this kind of abject poverty first hand is not something they will ever forget. The students at Bremen are incredible in their ability to empathize with those less fortunate, and this was just another example of that,” said Connelly. After organizing the collected items, students assembled 80 blessing bags and set out to personally deliver them to people in need in Chicago, IL. Mr. Matt Meany - Assistant Principal, Ms. Theresa Connelly - Social Worker and Mrs. Jessica Rucinski - Science Teacher, accompanied the students on the trip. They found people in tents, shelters, under viaducts, and standing in the streets in Chicago and provided them with a blessing bag. “This is yet another amazing example of our students and their big hearts! I love that our staff is so supportive and helpful and goes out of their way to foster a giving spirit in our students,” said Dean of Students Mrs. Michele Jurgens.
