Bremen HS Teachers Incorporate Technology in the Classroom

Technology incorporation in the classroom keeps students involved in learning

On October 22, teachers in Bremen High School District 228 had a half day institute. Teachers met at noon, after teaching for the morning, for a whole group presentation and then split up in smaller groups. The teachers ended their day by choosing a teacher led technology-based workshop. The technology sessions all linked back to staying “connected with students via technology.” The sessions included how to correctly incorporate Instagram, Kahoot, Symbaloo, Remind 101, Pinterest, Quizlet, and Twitter into classrooms.

Spanish teacher, Mrs. Gina Arguelles, chose to attend the Kahoot workshop, which was led by Bremen History/Spanish teacher, Ms. Kristen Kaczmarek. “Ms. Kaczmarek was very thorough in her explanation and presentation on Kahoot. I went home that night and created an interactive game-like quiz for my students,” said Arguelles.

Kahoot is an online site that utilizes participation through game-based learning. It allows teachers to enter thought provoking questions that lead to discussion throughout the class. After creating her first Kahoot based lesson Arguelles ran it past Kaczmarek for a final evaluation. “I couldn’t believe how much the class really got into Kahoot! It was so much fun for all of us!” exclaimed Arguelles.
